I’m so happy to have found you! I was looking for Janelle Monae tour info, saw the Albuquerque date and the reference to of Montreal and I got SO excited. Your company and concept resonate so deeply for me, and so outside the norm in the States. I can’t wait to learn more, and see you in NM!
There is a street theatre company/festival in Ireland called Spraoi (see http://www.spraoi.com) that is so completely up your alley! The name (prounced ‘spree’) means ‘fun’ in Irish, and it was started by a gang of starving artistes on the dole in 1993. Now a large, crowded international festival, it’s 3 days of mayhem. Your group encompasses all the aspects…thatre, performance art and music! AND the festival is FREE and mostly outdoors.
Your video here made me homesick, because the fabrication for floats (for the macabre night parade) and other props in the ‘shed’ is fun and painful. We have to hack the clothes off our backs when all the fun is done.
I will send your link to my pal Miriam Dunne, the programme director. I’ve done loads of filmwork for their productions, and the volunteer base is enormous. Their funding is sucking right now because of the dire economy, but the arts in general are very respected in Ireland; more about passion and collaboration than money. This is why I find the Santa Fe arts scene exasperating.
All the best, and am so excited to find your site.
